Tanya Plibersek can stop this Barossa Gas pipeline

The fate of Santos’ Barossa gas project is now in Tanya Plibersek’s hands.

The NT Government has granted approval for the Darwin Pipeline Duplication project. But Darwin Harbour is too precious to lose—it doesn't need another dirty gas pipeline

It is now up to Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to grant approval for the pipeline duplication under the EPBC Act.

The Darwin Pipeline Duplication is the next step towards Santos’ uncertain plan to take carbon dioxide emissions from the Barossa Gas project and dump them in Timor-Leste waters.

Will you write to the Minister below and urge her not to put our precious marine ecosystems at risk for a dubious project, the future of which is uncertain?

Dear Minister Plibersek,
I am writing to urge you to stop Santos’ Barossa Gas project from putting our climate and our marine environment at risk.  
The Darwin Pipeline Duplication project, a crucial part of Santos’ Barossa gas project, is currently before you for review. I urge you to consider very seriously the impacts of the Barossa gas project, and the risks this pipeline will pose to Darwin Harbour. You have the power to protect this incredible part of Australia. 
The Barossa gas project would be Australia’s dirtiest offshore gas project. The project’s emissions are simply not compatible with Australia’s climate obligations nor with a safe and livable climate.  
We love our Harbor. Unlike many other major cities, Darwin Harbour still has many of its incredible ecological features intact. But it faces encroaching industrialization. The Harbour supports diverse and thriving ecosystems that provide a cultural, recreational, and economic foundation for our city. The Harbour and nearby waters are home for many threatened species, and the area provides habitat critical for the survival of the Flatback Turtle  
Santos wants to construct a new pipeline so that its existing pipeline can be used to transport carbon dioxide emissions for storage at Bayu Undan. I’m very concerned that Santos has not yet shown that this carbon capture and storage project is feasible. We cannot put our marine ecosystems and threatened species in danger for a project that might never get off the ground.  
I urge you to stop Santos’ Barossa gas pipeline duplication from progressing. Protecting Darwin Harbour and our unique marine ecosystems is an opportunity to stand with Darwin residents and save what we cherish most about this place.
