Environment Centre NT - protecting nature, living sustainably, creating climate for a change

Sustainable House Day 2017 is here!

Sustainable House Day (SHD) is happening on Sunday 20 August in Darwin, from 10am to 3pm. It is part of a national day of open sustainable houses (note the national event runs on 17th Sep).

This year’s event will be very diverse experience of what sustainability can be in the Top End. We have a mix of architect-designed homes, renovated homes and homes that are well-lived in over the years.

Visitors will be able to see and meet very different people who are committed to reducing their eco footprint through the house they live in.

Come along and experience what sustainable houses look and feel like: homes that use less energy and water, homes built with sustainable materials and who have invested in renewable energy, and in Darwin, especially homes built to keep cool in the hot tropics with minimal energy use.

Visitors will tour each home, see what the homeowner or architect has done to create beautiful, efficient, comfortable tropical homes.

You will have the chance to meet the homeowner and ask questions, to learn how it’s possible to create your own sustainable home and garden.

On the day, visitors to SHD will also gain special access to experts in areas of green living and energy efficient products and learn more about how to live more sustainably.

The event is free!
