Stand with Larrakia - Stop Middle Arm

Larrakia Traditional Owners, like most Territorians, don't want a toxic petrochemicals hub at Middle Arm.

They say they haven't been consulted and they don't want their country and sacred sites destroyed.

Federal Minister for Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek has the power to stop this threat to Middle Arm.

Dear Minister Plibersek, 
I am writing because I am very concerned about the proposed Middle Arm gas and petrochemical hub planned for Darwin Harbour. 
The Middle Arm gas and petrochemical hub is a toxic, polluting gas and petrochemical development that will irreversibly damage health, harbour and climate, and open up the carbon bomb of the Beetaloo Basin. 
Now it is clear that the development is opposed by senior Larrakia Traditional Owners, and that there are significant rock art, cultural heritage and sacred sites at Middle Arm that could be irreversibly damaged if this development goes ahead. 
It is unacceptable that Larrakia wishes have been ignored by the Northern Territory and Commonwealth Governments, particularly following the destruction of Juukan Gorge. 
The rights of the Larrakia people to free, prior and informed consent are being swept aside to allow for the expansion of the gas industry in the Northern Territory.  Both the Northern Territory and Australian Governments have failed to follow basic accepted protocols with respect to the cultural heritage assessment for Middle Arm. 
I am writing to ask you to stop the approvals process for Middle Arm by blocking the Environmental Impact Assessment, and ensuring the Senate Inquiry into Middle Arm is convened immediately so that Traditional Owners can speak out about the project and its impacts on cultural heritage and sacred sites. 
Please don’t allow a toxic gas and petrochemical development to be prioritised over the rights of First Nations people.
