We have been overwhelmed by offers of support from all corners, whether it be to donate, host an event, undertake research, to take photographs, or to join as a member – however we still need to restore a total of $235,000 gutted from our budget through government funding cuts, including $185,000 from the NT Government effective June 30.
In a media statement, Chair Tony Young highlighted that for over 35 years, the Environment Centre has worked tirelessly to protect the Territory’s environment, and that given its level of community support, there was no doubt it would continue to do so for many years into the future.
As the impact of Federal and NT Government funding cuts take effect, the Environment Centre NT has been forced to change its operations in response to less resources being available to provide detailed policy information, sustainable living advice and community engagement support.
TAKE ACTION – SUPPORT US NOW
If you value our unique and special Territory environment, there are lots of ways you can contribute to maintaining the Territory’s voice for the environment – here are just a few ways you can help.
BECOME A MEMBER
We have changed our membership fees so now, anyone can join!
Members will receive a ‘member pack’ and join a group of dedicated community members who love the
Territory environment, from the beaches to the savanna, from the wetlands to the stone country.
If you are already a member, why not ask a friend to join!
If you have time, skills or knowledge you would like to contribute we would love to hear from you!
Our volunteers are a diverse group of supporters who help out in many ways, whether it be research, helping out at events, providing admin support, creating a video, writing grants or taking photographs.
We will also soon be introducing an Environment Centre Ambassador program to train up committed volunteers to represent the Environment Centre at stalls or events.
